Rode today...

Took a quick snapshot from my cell phone after my ride today. It was a wonderful Saturday and got a great ride in. Just missed the 40 mile mark but ehh...  Good enough for me. Once Heather is here, there should be more time to do longer rides on the weekend but now there are just too many projects her and I have yet to accomplish.

Still training...

I thought this video fits the topic. For those who don't know what I'm training for....
...the training is on going and I've picked up my cycling to some degree. Swimming 3 times a week and cycling 3 times a week. Next week I'll need Heather to time my 400 meter freestyle. I need to pick up my running and that should start up more substantially next month. Again, the first tri is on April 28th in Moraga. Those are interested should come and watch, I'd love to have friends there. Heather certainly would like others to keep her company when I'm out there busting my butt competing. :-) Tomorrow is officially Persian New Year!

Moraga TreeLine Triathlon

So this is the first Tri I would like to shoot for.

Moraga TreeLine Triathlon

I'm super stoked that my buddy Tim is willing to start running with me on Sundays starting in April. As many people know, my vice is running so the idea of having a friend of mine who has actually run marathons willingly run with me is super great. That combined with swimming at the YMCA and cycling after work, I think I have a great shot to doing well.

Shoulder is still bothering me a little at night. Extended pressure on the shoulder at night causes pain (Right shoulder). I think there's some kind of inflamation in my shoulder (perhaps within the rotater cuff) that is causing the pain.  Overall in the day, I have no discomfort even when I'm weight training.

Heather is insiting I have it looked at. If it persists I will. I have a physical coming up next month, I can just bring it up there as well.

This weekend I need to figure out which routes I have to ride while still in the city during the week. We'll see...

Russian River Barrel Testing...err..Tasting.

Heather and I travelled up to Sunny Sonoma county last weekend for barrel tasting with Harmony, Ritchie and some of Harmony's friends.  It was a fun trip. I'm still amazed that for $10, you get a class and a wrist band and you can hit up a slew of wineries for all the wine and food you can imagine. Each of the wineries had a varying degree of food laid out from small appetizers to full on BBQ and salads. As long as you showed up with the wrist band and the glass, you got it all for free! We hit up about 5 different wineries, 2 of them were tasting rooms in downtown Healdsburg. We ended up having dinner at Bear Republic, a small brewery in town.

Training news

Starting next week I get to work an hourly earlier and leave an hour earlier so that I have at least a decent 2 hours of daylight to ride each day. Finally!  I've been spinning weekly along with resistance training in order to keep my muscles loose and ready as well as keeping my metabolism up through the winter season. This week I started swimming at the YMCA. I will continue this at least twice a week on my lunch hour along with my afternoon rides four times a week.  Hopefully I can squeeze in some runs in the weekends.

My hope is to do my first Sprint tri this June although there's one at the end of this month in San Luis Obispo that does seem tempting.  Then one in Davis (UC Davis) that seems more reasonable in April which I may shoot for that gives me ample time to get ready.

Oh I found out yesterday I can bench more; I'm getting stronger.  I'm up to about 205, three sets of 10.  I was at 190-195 a couple months ago so I'm getting stronger in my upper body. As I told Heather, I'm not shooting towards a career in body building but it's nice to know I'm gaining and not loosing upper body strength.  I'm assuming this equtes to an additional degree of muscle tissue which translates to higher basal metabolic rate.

More later...
