Russian River Barrel Testing...err..Tasting.

Heather and I travelled up to Sunny Sonoma county last weekend for barrel tasting with Harmony, Ritchie and some of Harmony's friends.  It was a fun trip. I'm still amazed that for $10, you get a class and a wrist band and you can hit up a slew of wineries for all the wine and food you can imagine. Each of the wineries had a varying degree of food laid out from small appetizers to full on BBQ and salads. As long as you showed up with the wrist band and the glass, you got it all for free! We hit up about 5 different wineries, 2 of them were tasting rooms in downtown Healdsburg. We ended up having dinner at Bear Republic, a small brewery in town.

Training news

Starting next week I get to work an hourly earlier and leave an hour earlier so that I have at least a decent 2 hours of daylight to ride each day. Finally!  I've been spinning weekly along with resistance training in order to keep my muscles loose and ready as well as keeping my metabolism up through the winter season. This week I started swimming at the YMCA. I will continue this at least twice a week on my lunch hour along with my afternoon rides four times a week.  Hopefully I can squeeze in some runs in the weekends.

My hope is to do my first Sprint tri this June although there's one at the end of this month in San Luis Obispo that does seem tempting.  Then one in Davis (UC Davis) that seems more reasonable in April which I may shoot for that gives me ample time to get ready.

Oh I found out yesterday I can bench more; I'm getting stronger.  I'm up to about 205, three sets of 10.  I was at 190-195 a couple months ago so I'm getting stronger in my upper body. As I told Heather, I'm not shooting towards a career in body building but it's nice to know I'm gaining and not loosing upper body strength.  I'm assuming this equtes to an additional degree of muscle tissue which translates to higher basal metabolic rate.

More later...
